The objective of the NEW Translation of the Bible, curated by the Italian Bishops' Conference, was to offer a text "more secure against the originals; more consistent in the internal dynamics; more communicative towards contemporary culture and more suitable for proclamation in the liturgical context". So mons. Giuseppe Betori, then secretary general of the CEI, outlined the aims followed by the specialists in the translation work, highlighting that the new translation tried to "maintain as far as possible" a "specific religious terminology", so it was decided to maintain terms as "Verbo", "Paraclito" "Parasceve"... Another criterion was to present a text "that you let listen and that already from the listening manifest the message that encloses... This involves a simple construction of the phrase and the period, the use of an essential vocabulary, without however losing in distinctions and wealth". The new translation then corrects "inaccuracies, inconsistencies and errors of the translation of 1971-74", so he tried to "recover an adherence to a more literal translation to the tone and style of the original languages"; she was worried about making the text in good Italian language while also curing the rhythm of the sentence. The volume appears as an official text in all contexts: liturgical and pastoral. Replaces everything and for all the previous translation. "We must constantly portray biblical thought in a contemporary language, so that it is expressed in a manner adapted to the audience" John Paul II "Dear young people, I urge you to buy familiarity with the Bible, to keep it at hand, so that it may be for you as a compass that indicates the way to follow" Benedict XVI
